Cute FTP Pro Client Setup Tutorial

Cute FTP is our preferred FTP program for tasks beyond the simple transfer of files (Dreamweaver works fine for that) such as setting permissions on PERL scripts. It's cheap and powerful.

1. Create a New FTP Site by clicking on File > New > FTP_Site

2. Fill in a name for your site, along with your site's domain name, username, and password.

If the site is brand new, you may need to use your site's IP address rather than the domain name for the first few days.

If you're transferring your site from another domain, you'll use the IP address to load the site to the new server before pointing the domain to the new server location.

3. For sites hosted by 4factors.com, your HTML files and images should be transferred to the 'www' folder. In CuteFTP, you can set this location to be the default location you'll see on the remote server by typing www into the first box on the Actions tab.

Also, set the local folder location to the location of the site on your computer. This is especially important if you maintain more than one web site, because you certainly wouldn't want to accidentally load a site to the wrong location, overwriting the one that belongs there.

5. Click 'Connect' to test your connection.

6. Done
